Bridging the Digital Divide: KOA Education Foundation’s ICT and Digital Library Initiative
In December 2023, the KOA Education Foundation celebrated a significant milestone thanks to a generous grant from the New Africa Fund. This funding was instrumental in establishing an ICT Centre and Digital Library, along with a Literacy and Numeracy Centre, aimed at supporting less-privileged learners. This initiative seeks to bridge the digital divide and promote all-inclusive education for less-privileged learners in Nigeria.

Empowering Education Through Technology
The new ICT Centre is a cornerstone of this multifaceted project. Its primary objective is to equip selected learners, who have little to no knowledge of computer operations, with essential ICT skills. Over the course of a year(two batches a year), these students will receive intensive training in Microsoft Office 365, graphic design, and other fundamental computer skills. This hands-on experience is designed to prepare them for a digitally driven world, enhancing their educational and professional prospects.
To further support students, the program includes a three to four-month Computer-Based Test (CBT) training from January to April. This training is crucial as many learners face challenges operating computers, a necessity for taking UTME exams, which are a prerequisite for university admission in Nigeria.

A Comprehensive Learning Hub
Beyond its ICT component, the centre also functions as a Digital Library. This resource-rich environment enables students to access a vast array of online materials for research and study, significantly broadening their learning horizons. The Digital Library is an invaluable tool for fostering a culture of independent learning and critical thinking.
Moreover, the centre serves as a Literacy and Numeracy hub. It provides targeted support to learners from low-income families who are struggling academically. By offering personalized assistance in reading, writing, and mathematics, the centre helps these students build a strong educational foundation, thereby improving their overall academic performance and confidence.
Commitment to Sustainable Development
The KOA Education Foundation’s initiative is deeply aligned with the Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

A Lasting Impact
The establishment of the ICT Centre, Digital Library, and Literacy and Numeracy Centre emphasizes KOA Education Foundation’s dedication to fostering equitable and inclusive quality education. This project not only addresses immediate educational needs but also lays the groundwork for long-term community empowerment. By bridging the digital divide, the Foundation is helping to create a more equitable and educated society, where every learner has the opportunity to succeed.
Through this innovative initiative, the KOA Education Foundation is making a lasting impact on the lives of underprivileged learners in Nigeria, paving the way for a brighter, more inclusive future.
